Deuteronomy 30:19 “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”
Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly places a choice before His people: life or death, good or evil, light or darkness, the narrow way or the wide way. Jesus Himself said, “Enter through the narrow gate” (Matthew 7:13–14). The Bible makes it clear that our choices matter.
God created us with the ability to choose. He did not create us as robots programmed to obey Him. He gives us the freedom to respond to Him, love Him, trust Him, and obey Him willingly. But freedom does not remove responsibilities. Every choice has a direction, and the direction of our choices gradually shapes the direction of our lives.
We make choices every day. It includes what we believe, whom we listen to, whom we allow to influence us, what we pursue, what we walk away from, and whether we obey God when His Word challenges us. Sometimes we choose according to what is easiest, most comfortable, or most attractive to us. But a holy choice is not simply “What do I want?” It is “What does God want?” The most serious choices are not always the dramatic ones. Small choices repeated every day can move our hearts either toward God or away from Him. Ultimately, our choices have eternal significance.
God's invitation is clear: “Choose life.” He does not force us. He calls us to choose Him freely.
Reflection:
What choices am I making today that are shaping the direction of my life? When God's will and my preference are different, which one am I choosing?
Application:
Before making an important choice, pause and ask: “Does this choice take me closer to God or further from Him?” Choose God's truth over convenience, obedience over preference, and the path that leads toward Him
