Philippians 2:5-8 “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself.”
Jesus shows us that holiness is not about becoming greater in the eyes of others, but becoming willing to go lower in love. Though He was in very nature God, He did not use His position for His own advantage. He humbled Himself, took the nature of a servant, and became obedient even to death on a cross. His holiness was expressed through surrender, service, and selflessness.
Humility is difficult because we naturally want to be noticed, appreciated, heard, and valued. We may serve, but still want recognition. We may forgive, but want the other person to know how much we sacrificed. Christ calls us deeper. Holy humility asks, “How can I love and serve here?” rather than “What am I getting from this?” The humility of Christ does not mean thinking less of ourselves; it means being less occupied with ourselves. When our identity is secure in Christ, we do not have to compete, prove ourselves, defend our importance, or always have the last word. We are free to serve.
Application:
Today, deliberately choose one opportunity to put someone else first without seeking recognition. Do something loving that may never be noticed.
