Day 25 - Holy Influence

Audio

Matthew 5:14–16 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Jesus did not call us to withdraw from the world but to shine within it. A lamp does not make a difference by hiding itself. It makes a difference simply by being present and giving light. Holy influence is not about controlling people, impressing them, or trying to make them become like us. It is about living in such a way that Christ becomes visible through us. Sometimes we underestimate the influence of ordinary moments. A gentle response when everyone else is angry. Honesty when it would be easier to hide the truth. Forgiveness when someone has hurt us. Sitting beside someone who is grieving. Encouraging a discouraged colleague. Choosing kindness when nobody expects it. We may never know the full impact of these small choices. Light does not make noise; it simply shines.

Our influence begins with the people closest to us. What do our children experience from us? What does our spouse experience? What do our friends see when we are tired or under pressure? What do our colleagues notice when things don't go our way? What do our parents see in us? Jesus says that when people see our good works, they should “glorify your Father in heaven.” The goal of our influence is therefore not “Look at me.” It is “Look at God.” We don't have to be famous, powerful, or influential by the world's standards. One faithful life can bring light into a family, a workplace, a friendship, or a church.

Reflection:

When people experience my presence, do they see more of me or do they catch a glimpse of Christ?

Application:

Choose one place where you have influence whether it is your home, workplace, church, friendship, or community. Ask yourself: “What would it look like for Christ's light to shine through me here today?”

Then do one intentional act that reflects His character.
