2 Corinthians 3:18 “ And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit”
We often think holiness means trying harder to do the right things—controlling our words, avoiding sin, being disciplined, praying more, serving faithfully, and making better choices. All of these things matter. But there is something deeper. Holiness is not simply about changing what I do. It is about becoming like Christ. Paul says that as we look at the Lord’s glory, we are “being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory.” Our role is to keep turning our eyes toward Christ, surrendering ourselves to Him, and allowing the Holy Spirit to shape us.
Transformation begins with what we are looking at. We become deeply influenced by what continually occupies our hearts and minds. If we constantly compare ourselves with people, we may become insecure. If we constantly seek people's approval, we may become people-pleasers. If we constantly focus on our failures, we may begin to believe that our failures define us. But when we continually look at Christ, something begins to change. We see His humility. His compassion. His purity. His courage. His patience. His forgiveness. His obedience. His love. The more we behold Christ, the more we begin to reflect Christ. Holiness is not simply asking: “What should I stop doing?” It is also asking: “What do I see in Jesus that God wants to develop in me?”
A mirror doesn't create the image. It reflects the image placed before it. In the same way, our lives are meant to reflect Christ to the people around us. Reflect Christ - In church, At work, When you are tired, When someone disappoints you, When you are misunderstood, When nobody is watching, When you are suffering. The goal of holiness is not simply that people would say, “What a good Christian!”. The deeper goal is: “I can see something of Christ in this person's life.”
Reflection:
-
When people encounter me, what part of Christ do they see?
-
What quality of Jesus is God currently trying to develop in me?
-
Am I spending enough time looking at Christ through His Word, prayer, and worship?
Remember:
“I am not called merely to live a holy life; I am called to become more like Jesus.”
Look at Christ. Surrender to Christ. Become like Christ. Reflect Christ.
