Day 17 - Holy Identity

Audio

Deuteronomy 7:6 “For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.”

We all have things we consider precious, whether a family photo, a gift from someone we love, or something we have kept for years. Because it is precious to us, we treat it differently. The Bible says we are God's treasured possession. We belong to Him. God created us to know Him, walk with Him, and find our deepest identity in Him. But because of sin, humanity became separated from God. What was created for a relationship with Him became disconnected from its Creator. Yet God did not leave us there. Through Jesus, He brought us back to Himself and made us His own.

There is a place in our hearts that belongs to God. When we try to fill that place with people, achievements, possessions, recognition, or even ministry, something will always feel incomplete. We may accomplish something we worked hard for and feel happy for a while, but the satisfaction fades. We may receive someone's approval, but soon we need it again. We may gain more, achieve more, or become more successful, yet still feel an emptiness that nothing seems to explain.

Why? Because we were created for God.

Only God can fill what was designed for Him. His encouragement speaks to the places where we feel discouraged. His comfort meets us when we are hurting. His wisdom guides us when we don't know what to do. His strength carries us when we feel weak. His presence assures us when we feel alone. We don't need to keep searching for something else to complete us. We are God's treasured possession, and our deepest completeness is found in belonging to Him.

Application:

Today, identify one thing you have been looking to for the satisfaction, security, or worth that only God can give. Instead of asking, “What else do I need to make me feel complete?” ask: “Am I allowing God to fill the place in my heart that belongs to Him?” Spend some quiet time thanking God simply for choosing you, redeeming you, and making you His.

Reflection:

  • What am I depending on to make me feel valuable or complete?

  • Have my achievements, relationships, or responsibilities taken the place that belongs to God?

  • Do I truly find my identity in being God's treasured possession**?**

“I am His. He is enough. And nothing else can take His place.”
