Day 29 - Holy by being courageous

Audio

Luke 9:51 “As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.”

Jesus knew what awaited Him in Jerusalem. It was only rejection, suffering, and the cross. Yet He did not turn away. He “resolutely set out” because He knew the Father's will. His courage was not the absence of fear or pain; it was love and obedience that were greater than the fear of what lay ahead. Sometimes holiness requires courage. It takes courage to speak the truth when silence would be easier, to stand for what is right when others disagree, to say no to what pulls us away from God, to remain faithful when obedience costs us something, and to do what God asks when we cannot see what comes next. Courageous holiness is not about being strong enough on our own, rather trusting God enough to obey Him.

Jesus did not choose the easiest road; He chose the Father's road. Holy courage asks, “What is God asking me to do?” rather than “What will keep me comfortable?” There is no playing safe in the mission of God. When our hearts are surrendered to God, courage becomes the willingness to take the next faithful step even when the road is difficult.

Reflection:

Where is fear or comfort keeping me from taking the next step of obedience to God?

Application:

Identify one place where fear is keeping you from obeying God. Take one courageous step today not because you feel fearless, but because you trust the One who is leading you.
